Historical File - January 2003

     Dear Members and Friends,

To all of you a Happy New Year.  May the new year bring us all Health, Happiness and Peace on Earth.

Ladders

This month’s ladder leaders are:

Men’s Ladder – Chris Poate

Junior Ladder – Tim Mayer

Ladies’ Ladder – Lynne Whittemore

Remember, if you are on the ladder, it is a challenge ladder and you must call and challenge opponents to get points.

Junior Development

The 2003 winter junior development program is scheduled to begin the week of January 6.  As always, we offer clinics for all ages and skill levels.  Sign up today, or call Doug for more information.

Player to Watch

This month’s player to watch is Richard Greene.  In his first full year of USTA tournament play, Richard has managed to work his way up to a Florida Sectional ranking of 133.  With several more months left in his 12s eligibility, Richard has an excellent chance to break into the top 100.  In tournament play in 2002, Richard was a semifinalist at the Oktoberfest Super Series, runner-up at the Pensacola Junior Championships, and champion of both the Fort Walton Junior Championships and the Cayo Grande Future Junior Championships.

CAC Christmas Benefit

The second annual Children’s Advocacy Center Christmas Benefit Tournament was held December 7 & 8.  This year’s event was once again a great success, with over 80 participants.  Congratulations to the following for winning their respective divisions: L.J. Tsunis, Chris Krenek, Danny Grieco, Emily Dutton, Maria Westbrook, Jim Moneymaker, Brian Braziel, Bob Cooper, Rich Simonson, Coline McNew, Jill Moore, Edna Ingham, Lois Schmidt, and Ed and Della Mandel.  More importantly, however, is the fact that this event raised $2,500 for the Children’s Advocacy Center.  Thanks to all that helped make this event a success.

Adult Designated Tournament

Our largest tournament of the year will be held January 31 through February 2.  This year’s tournament will once again offer divisions in the odd age groups (i.e. 35s, 45s, 55s, etc.), as well as non-sanctioned B and C divisions.  If juniors would like to play in this tournament, they must play in the Open divisions.  Entry forms are available in the Pro Shop now.  Sign up now and encourage all your friends to join in on the fun!
