Welcome New Members
We would like to welcome the following to the Bluewater Bay Tennis Center family: Guy Omictin, Mina Studley, Manny Cavazos, and Paul Brezna. We hope you enjoy the great facilities and even greater members at BBTC.
Kiwanis' Tournament
Thanks to all the members who participated in this year's Kiwanis' tournament. Although we would always like to have more participants, all who played had a great time and as always, the Kiwanis' did an awesome job of making everyone feel at home.
Fall Junior Development
Jay and Doug have released the tournament travel schedule for the Fall. We encourage all juniors who feel comfortable doing so to participate in all the area tournaments (there are more than 20 annual USTA sanctioned junior tournaments between Pensacola and Panama City). In addition, we will offer a monthly trip to a tournament outside of our District. Contact Doug or Jay for more information.
Cardio Tennis
Beginning the week of September 19th, BBTC will be offering a new program called Cardio-Tennis. This program is, as the name implies, a fitness workout on the tennis court. The clinics will be non-instructional; designed to get all participants moving, hitting balls, having a good time, and getting a cardiovascular workout all at the same time. Now, instead of staying in one spot and watching the wall while you workout on a stairmaster, stationary bike, or treadmill, you can interact with others, have a great time and still get your cardio workout at the same time. Clinics will be offered Mondays and Wednesdays 7:00 - 8:00 am, Wednesdays 6:00 - 7:00 pm and Saturdays noon to 1:00 pm. The cost is $15.00 per clinic or 10 clinics for $125.00. The costs will include use of a heart monitor and a demo racquet (a great chance to try a new racquet - you might need to replace that wooden racquet anyway!). Each clinic is limited to the first 8 paid students.
Singles Ladders
The singles ladders are back and better than ever. The results will be updated every Monday and posted downstairs on the giant racquet. In addition, the leader of both the women's and the men's ladder at the end of the month will have a reserved parking space for the times that they usually play. The top five juniors on the junior ladder will be allowed to play on the adult ladder as long as they maintain their position on the junior ladder. There is no charge for the ladder, even for non-members; so if you know someone who might want to play, let them know and both of you sign-up today!
Club Championships
The Bluewater Bay Tennis Center club championships will be held October 8th and 9th. Each year when this time rolls around and I begin asking members if they are playing, I get the same response: "I can't commit for an entire weekend", and "I play during the week, I can't play on the weekend". These are legitimate reasons not to play, but I would like to encourage you to consider playing this year -- just for this one weekend. If there are reasonable schedule requests, we can usually work around them. Find a partner (or better yet, play singles) and find out how much fun the club championships can be!
