Team News

The Northwest Florida League as well as the Pensacola Leagues have finished their season and are on a Summer Break.  Bluewater Bay Teams had a great showing;  lots of fun and good tennis. Congratulations to the Castaways Team (Team Captain Diane Stanley) for winning the trophy in Flight One.  The Alleycats ended up in 3rd place and the Classics in 7th.  In flight two, the Topspins team took 5th place and the Winjammers 8th.  The Diehards are our flight three team, and they ended up in 7th position, while our ‘new kids on the block’ the Racquettes, took 6th place in flight four.

Most teams have room for new players.  If you are interested in playing on a team and are a member of the Bluewater Bay Tennis Center, contact the Tennis Center and you will be given the names of the appropriate Captain(s).

BWB USTA Teams have strongest season ever

While USTA Team Tennis is in full swing throughout the Summer, some teams have already accomplished great things.  The first USTA Team Matches for the season are always scheduled for the Mixed Doubles Teams and the Senior Teams, followed by the regular 3.0, 3.5, 4.0’s etc. Men’s and Ladies Teams.

Two of the three Mixed Doubles Teams playing out of this club have won the Sectional Championships to go on to the Intersectional Championships at the end of the year.  Jim Moneymakers 7.5 Team and Greg Goodwin’s 6.5 Team were the winners of their Classes.

Three teams represented Bluewater Bay in the Senior League, one Men’s and Ladies 4.0 Senior Team and one Ladies 3.0 Senior Team.  Elaine Cunningham’s 3.0 Senior Ladies Team won the State Title in Naples to go on to the National Championship in San Diego, Ca. in October.

Annual Wimbledon Member Social scheduled for 6 July

It’s that time of the year again. Strawberries with cream, champagne, good food and fun tennis are things that make Wimbledon at Bluewater Bay so very popular.  This year this “members only” event is scheduled on Saturday July 6th  from 9am – 2pm.  It is played as a Mixed Doubles Round Robin and players must sign up at the Bluewater Bay Tennis Center prior to the event.

2002 Junior Aces Tournament

This year’s Junior Aces Tournament was held May 18 & 19 and attracted nearly 100 participants from throughout the region.   Although rain made things interesting on Saturday, all the players and parents were very cooperative and we were able to finish all but one event by Sunday evening.  The following BBTC members placed in the tournament: Brandon Vucovich (Boy’s 10 singles finalist), James Biernacki and Tim Mayer (Boy’s 14 doubles finalists), Stephanie Brown and Chelsey Leugers (Girl’s 12 doubles champions), Kim Cherry (Girl’s 16 doubles finalist), and Jennifer Stretch (Girl’s 16 doubles champion).
