USA Junior Team Tennis

Congratulations to all the juniors who participated in the Florida/Georgia Challenge in Jacksonville.  Although the Georgia team managed to scrape out the victory, this year’s competition proved to be the closest yet – and the Bluewater representatives definitely upheld their end.

Ladders

This month’s ladder leaders are:

Men’s Ladder – Andy Gustafson

Junior Ladder – Taylor Braziel

Ladies’ Ladder – Lynne Whittemore

Remember, if you are on the ladder, it is a challenge ladder and you must call and challenge opponents to get points.

Junior Development

The second session of the Fall Junior Development Program has started.  If you have not signed-up yet and want to participate, call Doug and he can tell you the appropriate days and times for each child.

Player To Watch

This month’s player to watch is Taylor Braziel.  Taylor was able to reach the semi-finals of the following tournaments this year:  Junior Winter Classic, Bluewater Bay Junior, Pensacola Junior Champs, R.P. Sloan Claypit Super Series, and the Oktoberfest Super Series.

He also reached the finals of this year’s Summer Is Here Junior Classic, and just won the Cayo Grande Junior Futures Champs.  In addition, Taylor also recently concluded a very successful middle school career at Ruckel, which was capped off with a county tournament victory at the #1 singles spot.  Taylor has been able to increase his sectional ranking, and is teetering at the point to break into the top 100, with a season high ranking at 109.  Congratulations Taylor, you truly are a player to watch.

Free For All

On October 19, Bluewater Bay Tennis Center hosted a Free-for-All for local elementary school students.  The turnout was great with Plew sending 31 kids to the clinic, and Bluewater sending 40 kids.  For their efforts, each school received a USTA membership, which qualifies them to receive free tennis racquets for their P.E. classes.  Additionally, Bluewater will receive 2 free short court nets for winning the competition between the schools.  A hearty thanks to the USA Tennis Florida staff and the Emerald Coast Junior Tennis Development Council for their support; and especially to Mary Catherine Alexander, Nolan Roesler, and Doug Wercinski for donating their time and efforts to make this event such a success.
